Professional Experience

Over the past decade, I've built my career around one goal: creating technology platforms that are secure, scalable, resilient, and easy for engineering teams to use. My journey has taken me from supporting enterprise infrastructure to leading Platform Engineering, DevSecOps, and Infrastructure teams responsible for delivering mission-critical services across Africa.

Each role expanded my technical expertise, leadership responsibilities, and ability to align engineering with business outcomes. Today, my focus is on building platforms that accelerate software delivery while embedding security, observability, automation, and reliability into every layer of the technology stack.

Deputy IT Manager

Eclectics International·April 2021 – Present

As Deputy IT Manager, I lead the engineering teams responsible for enterprise infrastructure, Platform Engineering, DevSecOps, cloud transformation, and operational excellence. Working across multiple business units, I help define technology strategy while ensuring the platforms supporting critical financial and enterprise systems remain secure, highly available, and resilient.

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead Platform Engineering, Infrastructure, and Systems Engineering teams responsible for enterprise technology platforms.
  • Define infrastructure standards, governance, operational processes, and long-term technology roadmaps.
  • Mentor engineers and promote a culture centered on automation, reliability, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to deliver strategic infrastructure initiatives aligned with organizational objectives.

Platform Engineering

  • Design and operate highly available Kubernetes platforms supporting modern cloud-native applications.
  • Architect hybrid cloud environments that prioritize scalability, resilience, security, and operational simplicity.
  • Standardize platform capabilities through Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, and automated deployment practices.
  • Build reusable engineering platforms that reduce operational complexity while improving developer productivity.

DevSecOps & Automation

  • Implement security, compliance, and quality practices in all CI/CD pipelines.
  • Encourage the automation of infrastructure processes to prevent any duplication of work and ensure consistency in deployments.
  • Support the adoption of DevSecOps practices that include security in software deployments without slowing down the development process.

Observability & Reliability

  • Develop central observability systems using such tools as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, and other cloud-native technologies.
  • Improve observability skills in operations through monitoring, alerting, logging, and distributed tracing.
  • Achieve robustness in your system by implementing the best practices of reliability engineering, proactive incident management, and performance optimization.

Security & Business Continuity

  • Take the responsibility for the security of infrastructure projects in PCI-DSS architecture.
  • Implement enterprise security controls, hardening of infrastructure, vulnerability management, and governance.
  • Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Career Highlights

  • Modernized enterprise infrastructure through cloud-native Platform Engineering.
  • Standardized CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code practices across engineering teams.
  • Built enterprise observability capabilities that improved operational awareness and accelerated incident response.
  • Strengthened platform resilience through highly available Kubernetes architecture and automated operations.
  • Embedded security and compliance into engineering workflows while maintaining delivery speed.

ICT Technician

Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI)·June 2015 – September 2017

From working in end user support and enterprise IT operations, I have gained substantial experience in hardware, networking, troubleshooting, and customer support.

I learned from my experience with researchers and administrators that technology is not only about the system but about allowing people to work at their best. This philosophy influences how I approach platform engineering now.

Key Contributions

  • Setup, configuration, and maintenance of desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals.
  • Support for hardware, software, operating systems, and network connectivity.
  • Helped with structured cabling, workstation deployment, and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Managed IT assets and operations.
